Fivefold Ministry - Apostles - Greg Schut
Ephesians 4:11-13: "So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ."
Greg shared about seeing a picture of the fivefold ministry giftings as a hand and each finger was a different gifting. The apostle was on the thumb. When we use our hands, our thumb can assist all of the other fingers. Someone with the apostolic gift can often assist or operate in all of the other areas.
Apostle means "sent one".
As Jesus was the ultimate example of all of the gifts - Apostle, Pastor, Teacher, Evangelist, and Prophet, as the apostle, he was commissioned, or sent by the Father to come to earth.
In the Greek translation, apostle means "headship". In the cultural context, when a Kingdom would overtake another, they would send in the headship that would go ahead and establish the culture of the one that overtook. So if the apostle can mean headship, it means that they are someone who longs to establishes or release the Father's culture, the Kingdom, wherever they are.
People with the apostolic gift often are builders - physical and/or relational/spiritual. They often create. They also typically have a strong gift in administration and/or organization; they bring order and direction.
Apostles ensure that they body is built on Christ's foundation. They "hold the line" on the Truth. They are faithful to the Truth. They hold to Christ's standard. We see the example of the apostles in Acts - when they would be persecuted but would stand for the Truth.
People with the Apostolic gifting also love to see other's walking in their calling. They They awaken people to their God designed potential. They are instrumental in people discovering who they really are, and walking alongside them to get there. They forge new paths in the Kingdom and are a catalyst for change wherever they go.

Lyle shared personal experience of how his perspective changed once he learned how the Lord had gifted him. He then emphasized that the gifts are all based in love.
The Fivefold ministry gifts - apostles, pastors, teachers, evangelists, and prophets. Jesus was all of them, but as the body of Christ we are all given these gifts. Like Greg said last week, we all are given these gifts for the body of Christ to mature in unity.
The verse of the week, 1 Peter 4:10: "Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms".
We use these gifts to build up the body and to serve one another. As we learn and grow in our gifts, it is important to honor the gifts of those around you. We can all complement each other with the gifts we've been given.
Join us next week as hear a more in depth teaching on the Apostle gift.

Fivefold Ministry Intro Week 1 with Greg Schut
Ephesians 4:11-13 - So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, 12 to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up 13 until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.
The Fivefold Ministry comes from Ephesians 4 where it is said that all are gifted in these areas (apostles, prophets evangelists, pastors, and teachers) to equip and build up the body of Christ.
These are gifts from the Lord; gifts not for oneself, but for building up and equipping the body of Christ. No one gift is higher or greater than another. All of these gifts are necessary like all parts of the body are necessary - each operating in a different way, but if you take one away, the body isn't as healthy or doesn't function quite like it should. A healthy ministry needs all five of the gifts present in the body.
The gifts bring unity of the faith and knowledge of the Son. These gifts will continue until the Bride is mature. The Lord uses this to reconcile us to himself and he is passionate about the Bride being restored.
In the following weeks we will be learning more about each of the giftings, but here are the shortened descriptions of each:
Apostle - Dream Awakeners in the Kingdom of God who awaken people to their God designed potential
Prophet - Heart Revealers in the Kingdom of God who operates in high level of revelation - for the body.
Evangelists - Story Tellers in the Kingdom of God who are carriers of good news and partner with Jesus in celebrating people’s transformation.
Pastors/Shepherds - Soul Healers in the Kingdom of God. They are instrumental in guiding people through brokenness back to wholeness and healing their soul from wounds that keep them where they are.
Teachers - Light Givers in the Kingdom of God. They make the truth and knowledge about God accessible to all.
